About the Exhibition:

FREEDOMS 2‘, a multimedia exhibition hosted by Northwest LGBT Pride 2011. The exhibition will run from August 11th – 26th 2011 at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, New Line, Manorhamilton.

A public launch and reception will take place at the Leitrim Sculpture Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday, 11th August. The launch will include a specially devised performance by women with disabilities and transgender women, as well as the famous Pride cake!

“Freedoms 2” is curated this year by Leitrim artist, Brendan Dean. He says:

“Art: what is it? Who has the right to produce it? Is it about intellectual discourse or simply freely expressing ones own uniqueness in an individual way.

Pride means proudly and openly exclaiming individual uniqueness in whatever way it appears. It can be messy or neat, happy, sad, frustrated, confused, angry, loud, quiet, ugly, beautiful, simple, complicated…”

Works illustrate artists’ perceptions of freedom, both personal and social, and engage with issues of diversity, restriction and independent choices.
